Universal Modder FAQ

These answers separate the open-source toolkit from your agent account, game installation and optional asset services. Read the full safety rules on GitHub before your first session.

For a command you can use now, open Universal Modder installation. For your first project, follow the tutorial; for the underlying design, read what Universal Modder is.

Open the knowledge index on GitHub for game-specific notes, report toolkit bugs in GitHub issues, and ask the community in the project Discord. Our troubleshooting pages fix common installation and Minecraft errors.

Is Universal Modder free?

Yes. The toolkit is MIT-licensed and free to install. Model usage or subscriptions from your chosen agent can cost money, and fal charges separately for asset generation. um comfy uses an existing local ComfyUI server without a fal API key; local hardware, hosting and model licenses still have their own requirements.

Is Universal Modder safe to use?

The project includes explicit safety rules, but you should review what the agent will do. It calls for backups before save changes, limits the work to games you own, excludes protection bypasses and protected online-client injection, and prohibits shipping game files or decompiled source. It also asks for review before input automation, loader installation and publishing.

Will it get me banned?

Do not run an injected or modified client on protected online services. Universal Modder’s rules exclude cheating against other players and anti-cheat bypasses. Use the game’s supported modding surfaces and permitted offline or private-server workflows, and check the specific game’s rules, because account decisions rest with the publisher.

Does Universal Modder work on Mac?

The Python CLI and agents can run on macOS where their own dependencies are supported. That does not make a Windows game or loader native to macOS. The um win automation workflow needs Windows, either directly or driven from WSL; the game-specific route determines what can be tested on your Mac.

Which games does it support?

It provides engine playbooks and community field notes rather than a fixed compatibility list. The project’s examples cover Terraria with tModLoader, Age of Empires II DE and Minecraft inside GTA V Legacy story mode. The knowledge index holds nearly 100 notes; compare each note’s game version, platform, route and verification status with your installation.

Do I need a fal API key?

Only for fal-generated assets through its MCP tools or um fal. You can start with placeholder art or your own assets. um comfy can use a local ComfyUI server, which you must configure separately.

Which AI agent works best with it?

Universal Modder supports Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, VS Code/GitHub Copilot and OpenCode. Start with the agent you already use, then confirm that its skills, CLI and optional MCP connection are working.

Can I share or sell the mods I make?

Review the game’s mod policy and the licenses for every part of your package. Universal Modder’s rules allow your own code and assets, patches and converters, while excluding game files, extracted assets and decompiled source. fal and the selected model have their own terms, and the toolkit’s MIT license covers the toolkit only, not the game or its content.

Is this the official Universal Modder site?

No. This is an independent guide; Universal Modder is developed by rehan-remade, and the official repository is rehan-remade/universal-modder on GitHub.

Where can I get help?
